These are the directions for Road Safety (RS) and Custom Proximity loading to compatible GPSr's

To save yourself endless frustration, Comprehensive and full instructions on processing Road Safety data files and folders, are included in the "Download_ReadMe_200#####.zip" which should be downloaded for that purpose please!

These instructions are given with the assumption that your GPS is running on the latest version of Firmware and that (if need be) you have properly migrated from Pre-programmed (Plug & Play) to Mapsource mode:

The RS data-files consist of Four (4) Folders/Directories:

  1. Mobile Hazards - Where "ad-hoc" traps are held - This Folder contains Eight .gpx files and similarly named .bmp Icons
  2. Camera Hazards - Fixed locations where speed and Red Light Cameras are installed - Folder contains one .gpx and one .bmp Icon file
  3. Other Hazards - Where Known (and reported) Crime and other dangerous areas are marked - Folder contains one .gpx and one .bmp file
  4. Toll Plazas - Each Toll plaza in the Country is listed. (This zipfile contains four (4) .gpx files with tariffs according to the NRA listing of various Toll Tariffs at Toll Plazas. - Select an appropriate file according to your vehicle
  5. The last, (TollOne_Voice) is exactly the same as TollOne_Std, but has Voice warnings added as enhancement. - This enhancement will only function on "Travel Kit" enabled GPSr's or those with the MP3   ability

Please select the Toll Plaza file corresponding with your specific vehicle and use ONLY the ONE that corresponds with your vehicle!

To have the warning feature activated on the GPSr, you will have to use POI Loader, go HERE, download the software first.

If you want warnings on the GPSr when you exceed the speed limit in the proximity of the Camera- or Mobile Hazards, then you may also want to get the Abri Du Plooy Speed Converter V8.1 (or later). For configuration of the Grace settings, go HERE

Now, create a fresh, clean "Upload" folder/Directory in the Local ("C") drive from where you will always upload the RS data to the GPSr. - You may call this folder what you like, but if you plan on playing around with more advanced enhancements later on, call it "POI's" now, as this will later become compulsory!!.
LIKE THIS:

Now download the Road Safety (RS) Data in the zip file HERE. You will have to Login or Register first and then find the Zip file right below the paragraph written in red on the POI Loader PAGE.

We deliberately guide you to this page, to have you peruse through all the data and important notices and extras you may want to explore!

Now, extract the RS Data Zip-files you need, to that "Upload folder" called POI's!!

If you want to explore and install the Voice operated Toll files, click HERE (But only after you're through following these directions)

Once you have converted the speed related files, "Camera Hazards and Mobile Hazards", you delete the unconverted files, these are the files with the "UNDO" file extension, from the "POI's" folder. (There is now a setting to automatically delete these)

The folder should now look something like this:

Now run POI Loader in Express mode with all four RS Files in that single "Upload folder" called POI's, to your GPSr.

(If you should upload only one file at a time, it will replace whatever has already been uploaded, leaving you with only the current [last uploaded] file!)

For the Nuvi Range of GPSr's: When you upload, be sure to send the files in Express mode to the "Mass Storage device" (SD Card) and not the Nuvi itself.

Then, at first start-up tap OK when it gives you a message: Detected new Data on Card" and then tap "YES" when asked to "send data to the Nuvi" - This needs to be done only once.... that is, until the next upload of fresh data.

The "Traffic Monitoring Hazards" (TM POI's) are updated weekly, except when there may be some notification to the contrary. - Toll Plaza data may be updated only annually when prices change, but should any change be done in the meanwhile, the date of publishing will also change accordingly!!

OK, off yaGo!!.. Enjoy!!

Schalk, another thread that should be bookmarked for future reference.

Suggestion: Edit your post and add a "Go HERE" link to find out if your GPSr is compatible.

Johann

Probably the best place to start currently would be the POI Loader page in the website itself to clear the baggage of perceptions and then a browse through the POI Loader thread - and just maybe Rob will put keyboard to good use ... if you all ask nicely that is

OK, Now I get it (I must be having one of those "blond" days Metro Nomad was talking about in Joke alley)

Yes, there are guides and step-by-step instructions on the POI loader page, but it seems as if the forum is the second place new owners "stop" and then, after dealing with all the initial setup issues (and seeing you nice, friendly, helpful guys around here , just stay on and ask for the rest right here!!!!

Now, I'm the last oke around who would like a guy to resolve his setup-issues and then leave to never return! I've learnt too much from the guys in the past few months!

Yup - the Forum is a fountain of knowledge and growing stronger by the day. It's sometimes hard to find the right stuff though at the moment a question arises.

So true!!!

It's strange how people in general don't like to RTFM (The most reliable source), but trust the guiding of "been-there-done-that" users more! - I think it's because we are so used to incomplete, user-UN friendly manuals of decades gone by, that we now exclude that option as a rule!

I see this with a few friends who all have GPSr's but I still have to do all the maintenance and weekly POI downloads etc. - Not because the can't, because they refuse to learn how to....! Some people just are not interested in the functions, and goodies!

Schalk

It is called the 'fear of failure' syndrome.
