After installing Southern Africa Streetmaps 2010.2, I can't search for addresses anymore. My Nuvi 310 keeps on asking for State/Province and then responds with no match found. I've updated the firmware & reinstalled the maps but still can't get it working. Any ideas?

Hi bekim - welcome here.

The 610 is a 310 with a larger screen so my search went like this:

Where to > Address > County = Western Cape (I'm in Gauteng) > Spell City > Cape > Done > select cape Town Cbd (by scrolling down) > 45 > Ad > Adderly Street > Adderley Street Cape Town Cbd > Go.  Searches fine.

It can also depend on what street in what town you may be looking for - 1.  It might not be digitised yet; 2.  It might be digitised but not yet named (will default to Road); 3. The street may be in the map but there is a typo in the spelling of the name.  In all these cases you would receive "Not items found\d"

In this case  go to MapSource and scroll to the suburb and by a process of dead reckoning try to find the street.  If you can't, then use a nearest intersection as your target.  The destination won't be too far from that.

Hi bekim and welcome to the forum!

You could also read SA SM 2010 & Town Names for what it's worth.

Hi Shorty

Thanks for the reply, but the problem is that when it ask for State/Province, it replies with not found immediately I enter the first letter. It doesn't allow me to proceed past this point. Are there any files I can delete and retry installing - ie a "clean install". As I said, I installed the software off the DVD and everything was updated including the firmware. I did this a couple of times with the same result - Address & Intersection don't work.

Thanks guys.

Bekim, welcome from me also.

My usual reply is to contact GDA on Monday morning, don't delete anything just yet.

I'd agree with that - don't think we've had such a report on Forum before unless my single brain cell's not working this morning.

Please do let us know what the solution is, for others who may follow and have the same issue.

Thanks for all your assistance guys.

Phone Garmap as you suggested. They said I must have installed the maps incorrectly, so for the third time I tried re-installing, but this time using Mapsource as they suggested, and not the installation disk. Worked like a charm. Spoke to a guy at technical support named Jacques. Very helpful!

Would that have been Win Explorer to find, for the relevant map, Setup.exe > MapInstall (not MapSource)?  Or was it a simple repeat of "Send to Device" from MapSource?

Just as an aside, I have found, not on all GPSr mind you, that it's more secure using MapInstall to send maps to a GPSr instead of sending from MapSource.  Don't know why this is but if sending from MapSource doesn't complete or gives a corrupted map load then MapInstall usually sorts that.  If the unit being loaded uses an SD card then the loading of a map is much quicker (and more secure) via a card reader to the SD card.

It was a simple "Send to Device" and then selecting the various blocks on the map in MapSource that did the trick. MapInstall was the one that appeared to send corrupt data. Very strange. Anyway glad it's working - going to Joburg on the weekend and will definitely need the GPS.

Glad that's sorted then but I would download MapInstall again and re-install that.  It's a handy spanner to have in the toolbox.
