Hi guys, can any one help me out here please.  I live in Ceres,  WC and the town name won't show on Map source (V6.16.2) like ie Paarl or Worcester.  Only when you go to 3km zoom will you see the town name - however the caravan park name shows!! (Dennebos).  There are more small towns that don't show...my settings however are on highest.  This makes setting up a route quite difficult, cause you can't just click a town as a waypoint, you have to zoom first........is there something that I miss? Help would be much appreciated.

Hi Peter - welcome to Forum

The town name is searchable and it shows up fine once you zoom in a bit.

The mapset data compresses as one zooms out and smaller towns names would (should ) disappear from view as one zooms out.  You could test this by using the same location and zoom setting from your screen shot and zoom in step by step.

Hi

I have also noticed this. If memory serves, in previous versions of Mapsource and/or the Topo/Rec mapset, you didn't have to zoom in as much to see town names. As I zoom in on my current version (2010.1) I see lots of farm names and other descriptions long before the town names come up. By having to zoom in so much before a town name appears does indeed make it difficult to quickly plot a route.

Is there any solution to this? I thought it might be that the absent towns may be mis-classified as minor details. I really would like a resolution to this because its very annoying to see dozens of farm names while searching around, in close up, for a town.

Hi Shorty and Dogdog...

Yes in previous Versions one did not have to zoom in as much.  I would also like a solution to this...how does one put this to Garmap?  What i currently do is chop 'n change between Mapsource and another product.  In that in the 20 km zoom you see al the small towns.  Then back to Mapsource for the adres detail.  Id rather have the Town names than the R routes showing like in the current version.  Garmap?  please help!!

The quicker you can show certain items of detail in the zoom cycle the less detail you need to have in the mapset.  It's like squeezing water into a soccer ball bladder

You make a fair point though and we have been trying to discover ways of making the cities and towns to show names based on census figures with an override that Provincial Capitals then Regional major towns would pop up in sequence from the top down as it were.

It's quite 'finicky' to achieve and as I understand it from a fairly recent chat, what is then required is a consistency in the software so that what has been designed in one set of data for a release does not have to be done all over again when the next set of licensed software arrives.
